8,383 New HUD Code Manufactured Homes Shipped in October – A 5.5% Increase from September 2023
Source: Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) – Monthly Economic Report – In October 2023, 8,383 new manufactured homes were shipped, an increase of 431 homes or 5.5% percent compared to September 2023, and a decrease of 302 home or 3.5% compared to October 2022. Compared with the same month last year, shipments of both single section and multi section homes were down by 3.3 percent and 3.6 percent respectively. Total floors shipped in October 2023 were 13,013, a decrease of 465 floors or 3.5 percent compared with the same month last year.
The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 95,559 in October 2023, down 2.4 percent compared to the adjusted rate of 97,919 in September 2023. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.
Cumulative shipments through October this year totaled 75,033 homes compared with 98,456 homes for the same 10 months of 2022, a net increase of 23.8 percent.
In October 2023, 8,393 new manufactured homes were produced, an increase of 438 homes or 5.5 percent compared to September 2023 and a decrease of 301 homes or 3.5 percent compared to October 2022. MHI’s Monthly Economic Report includes numbers for both manufactured home production and shipments. The difference between the two is attributed to the number of homes that have been produced, but their destinations are pending. Of the homes produced, 17 were FEMA designated units shipped to Alabama.
The number of plants reporting production in October 2023 was 147 and the number of active corporations was 36, the same number of plants and corporations compared to the prior month.
