This Week in Manufactured Housing News: October 28th- November 3rd, 2018

Leading up to the mid-term elections this week—when thousands of local, state and national offices are on the line—manufactured housing news was a bit slower than usual as attention turned (unsurprisingly) towards the homestretch for campaigns across the country. Never fear, though: Your weekly roundup is still as fresh as ever. (And, of course, don’t forget to vote on Tuesday!)

Florence Recovery Continues. Along the coast of Eastern North Carolina, manufactured housing continues to play a critical—and ever-expanding—roll in assisting those families impacted by Hurricane Florence.

A Stock Market Darling? In an interesting interview over on Barron’s, stock picker Jim Callinan points to manufactured housing as a wildly underrated market with nowhere to go but up. “About 80% of homes under the price of $150,000 is manufactured housing…[and] the available market to them has grown tremendously. Their No. 1 buyer is the first-time home buyer—a millennial couple.”

Manufactured Housing Fights Back! In Seattle, a look at how residents of manufactured housing communities are working to preserve their neighborhoods: “Rather than standing by as their affordable housing disappears, in recent years, mobile home residents have teamed up with city agencies and nonprofit organizations to find alternative ways to preserve their communities and help safeguard their way of life.”

Award-Winning Work. The Vermont Housing Finance Agency has received national recognition for their efforts to help provide down-payment assistance for low-income residents looking to purchase their first homes—a large portion of which are manufactured or modular properties.
