This Week In Manufactured Housing News: January 1st – January 7th

Happy 2019! The first week of the new year brought a strong influx of stories about upcoming manufactured housing construction projects, efforts to create more affordable housing and the implications for recent regulation changes. Read up below, and let us know what you think will be the biggest trend in manufactured housing this year!

Developments Down South. The South Florida Reporter sings the praises of manufactured homes. “If you want a high-quality home that will stand up to the South Florida elements, and you don’t [want] to spend a fortune or sacrifice energy efficiency, a new prefab/modular home may be right up your alley.”

New Regulation Nuts and Bolts. In an informative look at the recent efforts by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to address the affordable housing crisis through, among others things, easier access to loans for manufactured homes, the Journal of Tax Credits gives a blow-by-blow breakdown of recent happenings.

A Sunny Future for Prefab Homes. In another piece out of Florida, the St. Augustine Times reports on how prefab home manufacturers and community builders are looking to fill a large, necessary void in the state’s housing stock.

Coming Soon, California! A new factory focusing on pre-fab homes will soon be under construction in Sonoma County, California in an effort to create more affordable housing for the region. “Habitat for Humanity Sonoma County…plans to open a zero-waste factory that could harness paid and volunteer workers to churn out walls and floors for about 70 prefabricated homes each year.”

Thinking Big, Thinking Small.
And across the pond, England continues to innovate and experiment in the prefab home arena with a new line of “snug” homes in Bristol, which—as you might imagine from the name—are notable for their diminutive size.
