How to Help Those Affected by the Tornadoes
Many states throughout the south were devastated this past weekend by the horrible tornadoes. No place has been more front-and-center in the public eye than Mayfield, Kentucky.
Many people are wondering how they can help.
We wanted to highlight some heroes within the manufactured housing industry who have gone above and beyond in the face of crisis. Duston Curtsinger from Arkansas Home Center in Beebe, Arkansas loaded up his excavator and has been helping remove the rubble in Mayfield. Dustin Ewing from Family Dream Homes has been handing out free gift cards to those impacted by the storm from his stores in Western Kentucky.
Two industry-based organizations are focusing relief efforts on assisting people in and around Mayfield. First, KMHI is offering twenty micro-grants of up to $1,000 each to residents of manufactured housing. The grants can assist residents with insurance deductibles, repairs, or providing down payments on new homes. KMHI’s Executive Director, Logan Hanes, and his wife are originally from the area hardest hit by the storms and are passionately leading this effort. If you (or any of your members) are interested in offering additional relief funds to MH owners in Kentucky impacted by the storms, please contact Logan at lhanes@KMHI.org or call him at (270) 556-3183.
Another cause worthy of industry support is being led by the Louisville-based non-profit, Next Step Network. Next Step is providing aid to a disabled veteran and his family who lost their manufactured home in the storm. To assist in the aid, Next Step has started an online donation campaign. Visit their fundraising page on Facebook for more information.
