MFH New and Views: Manufactured Home Production Continues Double-Digit Surge, Texas Tops Nation In Sales, Again
Individually selling more than 59,000 prefabricated/manufactured homes, the great state of Texas sold more units than Louisiana and Florida combined.
Helping this country’s overworked and underpaid citizens rebound from the Great Recession of 2008-2011, which left the average American family struggling to find affordable housing, America’s homebuyers have embraced the idea of purchasing a modern prefabricated/manufactured home as the more fiscally responsible option for obtaining a high quality, yet affordable home, in today’s current real estate market.
Validation
These growing preference for manufactured homes are established in the most recent official statistics from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), as compiled and reported by MHARR (the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform).
Demonstrating another breathtaking double-digit increase on a year-over-year basis, manufactured home production continued to swell as we head into the second half of 2016: Producing 6,780 homes during May 2016, a 16.9% increase over the 5,798 HUD* Code homes produced during May 2015. Cumulative industry production for 2016 now totals 32,570 homes, a 19.5% increase over the 27,257 HUD Code homes produced over the same period in 2015.
(*the cited statistics do not include the surge in sales of modular homes, which have become an important and well-received segment of affordable home production within the last few years.)
“We’re always pleased to report growing new manufactured home sales. that’s been close to a seven-year pattern now,” said MHARR President and CEO, M. Mark Weiss.
The manufactured homes produced by builders directly correlate to manufactured homes sold by retailers. The top 10 shipment states from the acknowledged industry production rebound in 2011 are as follows:
