National Manufactured Home Locations According to State Statistics

The following statistics reveal the states and cities where manufactured homes and mobile homes are located. The stats do not differentiate between “mobile homes” and manufactured homes. We will address them here as all  “manufactured homes.”

Note: All 10 of the following are rural oriented states which accounts for their higher percentage of shipments. It is also interesting to note that the Carolinas are the most popular destinations for manufactured homeowners, as a percent of their population in the U.S.

Notes: Texas, North Carolina, and Florida were the states with the highest number of manufactured homes in the U.S. as of September 2023. Since 1994, the cumulative number of manufactured housing units shipped to Texas amounted to approximately 557,000. Texas was also home to the largest number of manufactured home production plants with over 20 facilities operating in the state.

 

U.S. Cities With Highest Percentage Of Manufactured Homes

Lakeland, Florida – 21.5 percent of homes in Lakeland, Florida are manufactured homes located in the Tampa Bay region. This Polk County city is the largest between Tampa and Orlando. True to its name, Lakeland mostly consisted of lakes – and some land. With so much space, it’s a perfect place to have a lot to put a manufactured home on. Lakeland has over 30 manufactured home communities for those looking to settle in one.

McAllen, Texas –  McAllen is a small Texas town that has a large percentage of manufactured homes – 14.6% to be exact, according to data by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Columbia, South Carolina – The state’s capital has a manufactured home stock of 13 percent. As noted, according to data, South Carolina has the most manufactured homes per capital than any other state.

Augusta, Georgia – 12.8 percent of homes are manufactured homes located close to the South Carolina border.

Greenville, South Carolina – This Palmetto state actually makes our list twice, with a manufactured home housing stock of 12.6 percent.
