New Secretary of HUD Confirmed (Strong Advocate for Manufactured Housing)

President Trump has nominated Scott Turner, a former professional football player, businessman, and public servant, to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Turner has been confirmed for the Cabinet position, receiving Senate approval with a 55-44-1 vote. His confirmation followed a 13-11 vote  by the Senate Banking Committee, both largely along party lines.

Turner has a background in housing and community development and previously served as the executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council during the first Trump administration. During that time, he led the Opportunity Zones initiative aimed at promoting economic growth in under-served communities.

Turner has expressed a strong commitment to increasing the availability and affordability of manufactured housing, pledging to reduce regulatory burdens and streamline  processes to facilitate the development of affordable housing.

This continues the trend felt in 2024 from HUD’s update to the Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standard. Many believe that this mindset is essential to the growth within the manufactured housing industry. Turner’s nomination received support from the Manufactured Housing Institute and 22 other housing organizations.
